MUTAZ ESSA BARSHIM (QAT) the 21-year-old Olympic bronze medalist in the high jump cleared a bar at 7 feet, 10 1/2 inches. He became just the eighth man in history to go that high and the first to do it in 13 years.
Barshim declined to go after the world record of eight feet even, but he earned the Prefontaine Classic's Maria Mutola Award as athlete of the meet . This was the second day of the Diamond League event Prefontaine Classic held at the University of Oregons Hayward Field.The Prefontaine Classic is named for University of Oregon track legend Steve Prefontaine.
