Rafael Nadal (ESP) turned back a strong challenge by K. Nishikori (JPN) in the men's singles division in day eight of the Australian Open. Nadal struggled at times and required a medical time out to tape his hands but he ended the day winning 7-6 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (3). The match was held at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena.
